April 2015, The German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz has announced a new revision of the Anschütz Standard 22 Gyro Compass System. The enhancements improve the integration capabilities of the world’s most popular gyro compass and secures compliance with latest regulations.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released new test standards for gyro compasses. The main difference is that gyro compasses shall be compliant to bridge alert management requirements.

Raytheon Anschütz has reworked the alarm functionality of the whole Standard 22 family, upgrading the sensor, the operator unit and the heading distribution. Fulfilling the new ISO requirements, Raytheon Anschütz introduces a new gyro operator unit. The new operator unit features a color TFT display for heading information and comprehensive alert presentation. The new operator unit is based on the well-known Nautosteer Advanced Steering operator and alarm unit hardware, maintaining the same look and feel. Additionally it provides serial interfaces for alert communication with a central alert management system.

Since its debut in 2004, the Standard 22, with more than 17,000 units sold, can be considered the world’s most popular gyro compass. The Standard 22 features a contact-free transmission of the gyro supply voltage and an optical signal transmission of the sensor data, which contributes to high operational reliability and operational safety. A long gyrosphere lifespan, long maintenance intervals, and low operation cost make the Standard 22 an ideal solution for any type of ship.
